Miss Jamaica Universe 2011 Shakira Martin Toy Drive

It was an honor and a pleasure to meet & greet Shakira Martin, Miss Jamaica Universe 2011 last week in South Florida.

To fulfill the mandate of her crowning platform, Miss Jamaica Universe 2011, Shakira Martin, who suffers from Sickle Cell Anemia, is hosting 7 Days of Christmas Toy Drive.

Shakira Martin is very serious about  increasing awareness of children suffering from Sickle Cell Anemia in Jamaica. This is one of many activities aimed at enlightening the public about children of Jamaica who are born with this illness. And Shakira is doing her job so well.

She was crowned Miss Jamaica Universe 2011 at the National Indoor Sports Centre in Kingston this past July. She is 25 years old and stands 5’8”, of course she is beautiful but most of all she is fresh and genuine with a lot of interests and she really into helping Ja’can’ children.

Miss Jamaica Universe 2011 Shakira Martin is humble, positive, real. She is into books and culture, helping the children and she enjoys music, of course. Actually another surprise was knowing that she grew up in a very musical family: her father used to play percussion in the legendary Steel Pulse and her uncle was also involved with music to on international level playing with the famous band Third World. Wow.

Still she manages to be so approachable and down to earth. At the question Gully or Gaza she answers Gully, if nothing cuz she lived really close to Cassava Piece. But even if Gully she gave MissGaza a beautiful drop.

Miss Jamaica Universe has a boyfriend that likes Kartel a lot. Like all the Gaza fans he’s sad for what Addi is going thru. Talking about Kartel she added she likes him too because he ‘s a really good artist but she thinks he lost touch with his roots.

Which is Miss Shakira Martin favorite artist? She is friends with a lot of artists and her top favorites are “the one and only Sean Paul” & Left Side. She was also featured in Nicky B Feat Sean Paul‘s video, for the song Isn’t This Love that You can watch it below.

During her 3 weeks experience for Miss Universe in Brasil, Shakira became friends with Kara Lord, Miss Guyana Universe 2011, from Georgetown Guyana. They kept in touch since and Shakira invited Kara to the Toy Drive. Kara was so cool to join her.

Another super fresh Miss Universe with solid background studies in Human Resources, Kara, 23 years old, used to work and lecture at the Guyana University till not too long ago, when her modeling experience started. We chatted about a little of everything from music to almost politics. She described in details her homeland and was very passionate about helping the children too.

It was nice to meet these young and beautiful ladies and their entourages. They left a strong positive impression : they are both beautiful, smart and brilliant ,with a lot coming up and still they don’t forget to give back to the community.

Please continue to help Miss Jamaica 2011 and Miss Guyana 2011 put a smile on the faces of children in Jamaica living with Sickle Cell Anemia this Christmas.
