This year edition of MOBO Awards, Music Of Black Origin, held in Glasgow, Scotland, declared Popcaan winner of the title – Best Reggae Act of 2016.

Popcaan won the title after being nominated with several other Jamaican reggae dancehall acts as Alkaline, Spice, Protoje & Kranium, beating them. The event saw also Lady Leshurr, Craig David and Drake came out as winners in this year best male act and Best Female Act.

MOBO Awards always tend to recognize artists without a shadow in their public life, and they withdraw nominations for  both Jah Cure and Vybz Kartel in the recent past, for some controversy linked to the artists, in the specific for some homophobic lyrics, in Kartel’s case.

Popcaan, that recently turned down an offer to voice on Vybz School Riddim, the latest reggae dancehall riddim from Jamaican label Good Good Production, which brings back all the artist from Kartel’s Portmore Empire that launched him to stardom, went on social media paying some respect to Vybz Kartel, his mentor that discovered and signed him, saying Kartel help a lot of youths bringing them to fame.
