- Jamaican reggae artist and Grammy-award-winning Buju Banton, is scheduled to be released from a federal prison in United States where he is currently detained, after completing his ten-year sentence on drug-related charges,on December 8, 2018.
- Buju Banton has already a series of appearances planned ahed of his release with the “Long Walk to Freedom” 2019 tour. According to Ronnie Tomlinson, Banton’s publicist, has to be sent back to his homeland of Jamaica upon his release, and steps are being taken to make this process as short as possible. But there will be a transition time where there are chances the Reggae superstar ill be placed in custody of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after his release. His manager reported that Banton has already created a team to manage his affairs upon his re-entry to society and the music scene.
- As for now Buju Banton’s legal status won’t allow him to work and travel in the US, his visa has been revoked due to the drug conviction, but he has hired a legal team to handle this part of his release details. The lawyers have already taken legal steps to work around the process, Banton is not fighting his immigration status and has chosen voluntary deportation, so when the sentence ends, he should and could be back in Jamaica quickly.
