Ricardo “Red Boom” Reid is a young & hectic music producer making a name for himself among Reggae/Dancehall producers in Jamaica today.

Having done work with I-Octane, Vybz Kartel, Wasp, Blak Ryno, Popcaan, Voicemail, T.O.K, Shane-O, Karamanti, Alozade, Danny English, Monster Twins and many others, he has a very embellished resume.

Red Boom or Red Bull, as he is sometimes called, literally creates magic in the studio and he has also done some good mixes as an engineer. 

Having a father that was involved in the music business inspired Ricardo to pursue a career in the same field, since his dad was the man responsible for printing record labels for a lot of the producers in the city and he owned a sound system that was fairly active.

Red Boom officially started out as a disc jockey playing his dad’s Sound System in the early 90’s, but at times, he had to deliver the labels done by his dad to the different producers, and that gave him his introduction to some key players in the business.

As a youngster coming up he was exposed to a lot of respected production houses such as Bobby Digital and Mixing Lab.

One very important person that taught him some invaluable fundamentals to music production and engineering on a whole, is Rorey Baker of Cribs Entertainment.

The producer slowly graduated from spinning records to actually making them and worked with quite a few studios across the island.

The first studio he worked at was Shore Jam in Portmore (where he lived at the time) in 2006.

In 2009 he worked alongside Notnice and Vybz Kartel on the “Street Vybz Riddim”, “Funeral Ceremony Riddim”, “Boxing Day Riddim” as well as several singles.

In 2010 Red Boom joined forces with Tower Hill based record label, Frenz For Real, and has released a slew of reggae dancehall riddim driven projects and singles since then.

A few worth mentioning are “Life Cycle Riddim”, “Preview Riddim”, “Raid Riddim” and “Up and Running Riddim”.

Now, after taking a break from releasing rhythm driven projects, Red Boom is getting ready to charge back on the scene with his “Pure Badness Riddim”.

A raw edgy beat which he says was created strictly for the streets, and will feature artists such as Jah Vinci, Merciless, 3 Star, Karamanti with Bay Badness, a song is dedicated to the 27-year-old pregnant woman killed by police in Yallahs, Jamaica in September as well as everyone else that is currently suffering at the hand of the Jamaican Police Force.

For the past few weeks, Jah Vinci has been doing a lot of work with Red Boom, as the two are compiling songs which will more than likely be added to the singer’s upcoming album.

A few singles that are being made available to fans now are “Rich 2 Time”, “Weh Mi Ago Do” ft. IQ and “Let’s Rock” ft. Scantana.

Jah Vinci ‘Sen Dem Home’ Pure Badness Riddim

Many are saying that Jah Vinci is making a comeback and as such, he has linked up with the right producer. Though both men were affiliated with the Gaza camp in the past, they each went their separate ways after leaving the crew.

Jah Vinci continued on with Notnice, while Red Boom linked up with Frenz For Real.

Now that they have officially started to work together, music lovers can expect great things!
